Proposed integrated development in Kembangan to have 340 BTO units, new community club
The Housing Development Board (HDB) has revealed ambitious plans for an integrated development adjacent to Kembangan MRT station, encompassing approximately 340 Build-To-Order (BTO) units and a five-story building featuring a new community club, supermarket, retail shops, outpatient healthcare facility, and more. The development aims to enhance community facilities, add retail options, and create a vibrant living environment.
Residential Component: The proposed development may include two 18-storey blocks comprising two-room flexi and four-room flats. The strategic location next to Kembangan MRT station emphasizes accessibility and convenience for residents.
Community Club and Facilities: The five-story building adjacent to the residential blocks will house a new community club, offering expanded sports and recreational facilities, including a sheltered basketball court, culinary studio, dance studios, and a gym. The larger Kampong Kembangan Community Club is designed to inject greater vibrancy into the estate and foster community engagement.
Neighborhood Park and Open Canal Conversion: A new neighborhood park, spanning 3,400 square meters, aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle and community bonding with features like playgrounds, fitness corners, and a multi-purpose court. Plans include converting an open canal into a linear park, adding recreational spaces and playgrounds, further enhancing the area’s appeal.
Infrastructure and Connectivity Improvements: Several infrastructure enhancements are planned to improve connectivity and accessibility. A proposed jogging path, approximately 1.5 times longer than the existing one, will connect neighborhood and linear parks. Additionally, a dedicated cycling path along Jalan Kembangan and a widened Siglap Park Connector will provide easier access to East Coast Park and Bedok Reservoir.
Transit Access and Sheltered Linkway: To improve public transport access, a sheltered linkway from the new development to Kembangan MRT station is proposed. An existing bus stop in Jalan Kembangan may incorporate a bus bay to prevent traffic disruptions. Measures will be implemented to manage construction-related inconveniences, including interim covered linkways and high hoardings with noise barriers.
Timeline and Completion: While specific details and completion timelines are yet to be finalized, the HDB emphasized that plans are underway, and further information will be shared when ready.
Community Reactions: The development has garnered mixed reactions from residents. While some lament the potential loss of open green spaces, others welcome the addition of retail options and improved community facilities. Concerns about the relocation of the Kampong Kembangan Community Club and potential flooding issues due to the sealing of an open canal have also been raised.
Conclusion: The comprehensive plans for the Kembangan integrated development highlight a holistic approach to urban development, encompassing residential, recreational, and community facilities. Balancing the aspirations of the community with the need for progress, the project aims to create a dynamic and well-connected living environment for residents.
